This business is in Joe's blood. He started working for his father's company, Thomas L. Kent Excavating,
at age 13 and carried on the family tradition opening Kent Excavating in 1986, Kent Paving in 1991, and
Kent Concrete Washout in 2014. During the past 32 years, Joe has grown the businesses considerably and now
employs 67 individuals at his shops in Culpeper and Ashland, VA. Joe is proud of the fact that several of
the company's employees have worked for him for more than 20 years, with the longest tenured person coming
in at 27 years of service Together, Joe and his team serve home builders such as NV, Ryan, Brookfield, Van
Metre, Stanley Martin, and other smaller builders in the Northern Virginia, Richmond and Charlottesville
markets. Combined together, the companies touch over 1,500 homes a year. Joe values quality work, honest
business practices, fair pricing, and loyalty. Today, Joe's own family is actively involved in both field
and office work as he employs two sons, Josh and Justin, sister Stephanie, brother Eddie, and niece Molly.
Oh, and let's not forget Henri, the chocolate lab. Joe still loves running the backhoe although he spends
far more time in the office now than he prefers.
